Stop assessments of your site

Banksia assesses a website when someone asks it to, by reading the pages that site already publishes. We do not sign in, we do not submit forms, and we keep the request rate low. If you would rather we did not do it at all on your domain, tell us here and we will stop.

How it works

  1. You tell us the domain

    Use the form below with an email address at that domain. We accept the apex domain and cover every subdomain of it.

  2. We confirm you speak for the site

    We send a confirmation link to the address you gave. Because that address is at the domain being claimed, confirming it demonstrates control of the domain — the same standard used for issuing certificates. We do this so a stranger cannot suppress assessments of someone else's site.

  3. We stop, and record that we stopped

    From the moment the link is confirmed, any request to assess that domain is refused. The refusal is recorded, and so is the request that caused it, so there is a trail showing we honoured it.

Request an opt-out

The domain you want us to stop assessing. Subdomains are covered.

Must be an address at the domain above. We send the confirmation link there, and confirming it is what demonstrates you speak for the site.

What this does and does not cover

  • It stops Banksia assessments of the domain and its subdomains. It does not affect search engines, other crawlers, or anyone else.
  • It does not delete assessments already run. Ask in the note field or by email if you want existing records removed, and we will handle that separately.
  • We do not tell the person who requested the assessment why it was refused, or that you asked. They are told only that we do not assess that site.
  • If your circumstances change, email us from an address at the domain and we will lift it.
